This course has been designed and contextualised to ensure workplace competence and enable students to complete assessments in relevant work-related situations. Training and assessment requirements:

  • Students will need an intermediate understanding of written and oral English and be able to communicate orally and in writing at an intermediate level.

Course pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for this course. Some pre-requisites are required for some elective units of competency.

If you are choosing the TMD course electives there are no pre-requisites however experience in traffic control and implementing traffic control plans is recommended.

TMA prerequisites include TMI card and heavy vehicle drivers licence (MR, HC, HR, MC).

Description

This course is required by SafeWork NSW for all persons working within the construction industry. It is an entry level induction that addresses the relevant aspects of work, health and safety in this industry. This course is a nationally accredited course which is mandatory for all persons working in or around the construction industry.

Basic work health and safety knowledge and skills are essential for a safe working environment. Before commencing work on site, it is important for workers to understand basic work health and safety concepts, risk management and emergency procedures. This course is designed to raise awareness of workplace safety and eliminate workplace accidents.

The course fees include all classroom training, simulated assessments and live project assessments. It also includes fees associated with receiving SafeWork NSW cards.

Delivery

This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom and simulated workplace environment. On this day you will be provided with all resources and learning materials needed to complete this course. You will practice your skills in a simulated workplace environment before undertaking any theory or practical assessments.

Assessments

Assessments are conducted by SafeWork NSW approved assessors.

Requirements

Enrolment requirements:

  • Proof of identity. 100 Points of Identity is required for this course. Please submit identity documents upon enrolment. You will also need to bring your identity documents with you on your training day to be verified by your trainer.

  • A person must be at least 14 years of age to participate in the training.

Training and assessment requirements:

  • Students will need a basic understanding of written and oral English and be able to communicate orally and in writing at a basic level.

What to expect

Training will include:

  • classroom activities
  • theory questionnaires and group activities
  • simulated workplace scenarios

When do I receive my card?

  • Worksite Training admin staff will lodge your application to SafeWork upon completion of the training and assessment.
  • You will receive a statement that you can use to prove you have completed the training until your new card arrives. The statement is valid for 60 days but most cards are issued in less than 30 days. If you don’t receive your card please call SafeWork on 13 10 50.

Learning outcomes

Licensing/Regulatory Information

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be provided with a SafeWork NSW Statement of Completion (SOC) certificate which allows you to work in the Traffic Control Industry immediately whilst waiting for final assessment which will be conducted in a live environment. The SOC is valid for 90 days only.

Upon successful completion of the assessment, you will be awarded a statement of attainment for the units of competency that have been trained and assessed which is submitted to SafeWork NSW.

Pathways to further training

This course is the starting point for all work or training in the construction industry. Once you have started working on a construction site you will be exposed to a variety of vocations including but not limited to traffic control, trade careers such as electrical, concreting, bricklaying, carpentry, metal fabrication, or pursue a career in Work Health and Safety.
