Confined Spaces - Refresher Course

This is a one day refresher course for the unit of competency - RIIWHS202D Enter and Work in Confined Spaces (includes emergency rescue).


Confined Spaces Refresher Training courses are designed to review confined space entry procedures and safe work practices. Confined Space workers require regular ongoing training (recommended every 12 – 18 months). This course has a large focus on safety procedures and practical scenarios which can be modified to ensure they are relevant to your company’s confined space operations.

Targeted Audience

This course has been designed to reduce the amount of time already-skilled participants spend in a classroom.  Building on participants’ previously attained competencies, we will confirm retention of knowledge and skills through minimal theory and lots of practical-based learning and activities.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identifying confined spaces
  • Identifying and controlling hazards
  • Roles, responsibilities and obligations of confined space workers
  • Risk assessments and hierarchy of hazard controls
  • Working under a confined space permit
  • Work site policies and procedures
  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Practical entry into a confined space
  • Safety and emergency procedures.
  • Issuing confined space work permits
  • Atmospheric monitoring and gas detection
  • Writing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and risk assessments

Learning Methods

This training is delivered as a 1 day face-to-face course. A comprehensive question and answer sessions will provide participants with a chance to receive advice from highly experienced instructors on how to complete their work ‘more safely’. Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Completion.
